SterileVent: cost savings through optimized Tyvek® usage
Multivac´s SterileVent packaging is a very cost-effective solution for medical products requiring gas sterilization (ethylene oxide). This advanced and optimized packaging concept ensures an extremely efficient usage of materials.

For medical products such as surgical drapes and gowns, tubes, catheters, implants, etc., which are sterilized inside the pack with ethylene oxide.
- During the thermoforming process a small window (patch) of Tyvek® is applied to the surface of the pack to enable sterilization of the contents
- Most of the Tyvek® is replaced by a less expensive film material
- Minimized Tyvek® process waste means further material cost savings
- A Tyvek® patch can be applied to a wide range of flexible films
- SterileVent packs are produced on automatic horizontal thermoformers
- The product is loaded into a flexible or rigid thermoformed pack
- The top film consists of two separate materials, film and Tyvek® or paper.
- A window of a defined size is cut out of the flexible top film. Then the Tyvek® or paper strip is placed over the opening and sealed to the top film
- The top film is then transported to the thermoformed pack and sealed to the bottom film
- MULTIVAC thermoformer R 245 or R 535 with SterileVent unit
- Flexible or semi-rigid bottom film
- Flexible top film
- Breathable material, such as Tyvek® or paper
